Things have changed since those days with Lucas Hunter recently departing the Zombies and leaving Nat Self as the last Zombie standing. Whilst the line up may have altered the philosophy has not; Nat’s sound is inspired by everything from classic house, ghetto tech, disco and hip hop. It’s this off-kilter approach to dance music that continues to see Nat in demand as a DJ, playing at the seediest rave dens to the biggest brightest clubs, including a residency at Berlin’s Watergate for ‘Made For The Night’, tours of Japan, North America, Australia, all over Europe, as well as back in his homeland of England.

His forthcoming debut album ‘Brains’ on Made To Play (May 2012) is a case in point; an all-out assault on the senses that fully deserves it’s place in the spotlight as Made To Play’s only album release this year…

ACID PAULI-MARVIN

I actually have done a very simple edit of this where I upped the tempo from 114 to 122 – aside from the bpm being a little on the slow side I think this track is perfect – one of my all time favourites – it has a pure soulful simplicity that makes me want to give people sweaty hugs.
 
 
UNKNOWN-THE ANSWER (GIPSY KINKS REMIX)

I’m pretty sure Gipsy Kinks is Kink (it’s right in the name after all) – a great re work of Danny Tenaglia’s classic song Music Is The Answer
 
 
INNER CITY-GOOD LOVE (LUCIANO REMIX)

A great track to start a set with or drop late night – Luciano at his best. I love to loop it at around 6 minutes and bring in another song.
 
 
SLG & SMOLNY-TURNAROUND

I was really sad when I found out Darryl Pandy died (the singer of love can’t turnaround by Farley Jackmaster Funk) – I had always hoped to get him on a record. I think the boys did him justice on this track using the vocal from love can’t turn around really well.

Named after Greater London’s own circular autobahn, the M25 – central to the early Rave scene and party network in the South East during the halcyon ‘daze’ of Acid House – Orbital are manned by brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. The duo’s popularity grew rapidly with the release of their second album, titled “Orbital 2” in 1993. The album reached #28 on the UK album charts, staying in the top chart for fifteen weeks. Orbital won a NME award for “Vibes Best Dance Act” early in 1994, but it was their headline appearance at the Glastonbury Festival on 25 June 1994 that brought them most attention. Q magazine classed it as one of the top 50 gigs of all time, and in 2002 included Orbital in their list of “50 Bands to See Before You Die”.

Since then they’ve released 7 studio albums (9 albums in total) and the newest one – ‘Wonky’ – came out only a month ago. It’s the band’s first album in eight years, and the first single (also called Wonky) gets released later this month with remixes from The Japanese Popstars, CSY & Stripes.

We’ve just been on tour with these guys and loved their show, this is one of my favourite tracks from their current album, and also features Robert smith.
 
 
KING CRISMON-IN THE COURT OF THE CRISMON KING

I’m just discovering prog rock properly and can’t believe how much influence on the music of the last few decades I can hear in this fantasticly melancholic track.
 
 
PLAID-FOUNDED

I’ve always loved Plaid and this is a favourite of mine from their brilliant new album Scintilli, it’s so electronic and so emotional.
 
 
JOANNA NEWSOM-GO LONG

I wouldn’t have thought that just some one singing and playing the harp could hold so much of my attention, but this is so captivating, I can’t even listen to this with out getting a lump in my throat.
 
 
SQUAREPUSHER-DARK STEERING

Great new track from Tom, it’s a bit more electronic than recent releases. Total electronic journey music, prog techno anyone?

Daniel B has reunited with co-founder Dirk Bergen after almost 30 years for a new project entitled Nothing But Noise – the project is a homage to the music that inspired him when he grew up, albums by the likes of Can, Tangerine Dream and Bowie, and is a beautifully cosmic ambient opus. Created in Daniel B’s studio the album features an array of rare and vintage analogue synthesizers such as the Moog Voyager, Prophet8, Juno 106 and Arp Odyssey. No nostalgia fest though, the album also explores the possibilities afforded by today’s new breed of analogue synthesizers. It’s lineage might be clear but this is an album that looks forward, respectful of the past but not in its thrall.

Having honed the Nothing But Noise sound over the course of two decades and a series of critically acclaimed live performances, ‘Not Bleeding Red’ is the culmination of a lifetime’s obsession with synthesized sound and a timeless example of how raw circuit boards can produce something stunningly beautiful…

From one of the best albums in 2010 (“All The Waters of the Earth Shall Turn To Blood”), this is a soft way to introduce people to the mayhem that is that album.

As always great, Emika deserves everything good that should happen to her.
 
 
BATTLES-MY MACHINES (FEAT. GARY NUMAN)

Battles are a great band. I choose this because Numan is featured, but the albums are all great and they have brilliant videos.
 
 
PYRAMIDS/HORSEBACK-THE CULT OF HENRY FLYNT

Two great bands together, you should definitely listen to their solo production if you like this.
 
 
AMADOU & MARIAM-SABALI

I could not find anything from the new Amadou & Mariam album, so this should do. When you’re tired of everything else this is a nice way to travel with your mind (if not your feet).
