Five Songs You Must Hear This Week: Ajello

Part Eighty-Two. Comprising of Luca (DJ Rocca) Roccatagliati and Fabrizio Taver Tavernelli, eclecticism is definitely the keyword word of the Ajello project and over the years their music has received worldwide support from a host of international artists including Laurent Garnier, Erol Alkan, Dimitri From Paris, Andrew Weatherall, and Nick Fanciulli amongst others.

‘Kalimba Tune’ is a perfect example of what they do best and brings together all their influences; electro, new-wave, italo-disco, disco, neurofunk, eurodance, space sounds and early house, to create a track full of perfect dancefloor moments and of course plenty of that eponymous thumb piano…

Retrospective records decided to pull out all the stops on the remixes for this project…Kalimba Tune’s been remixed by Hardway Bros (undoubtedly one of Future Disco’s pioneers with a heritage to match), Chris Massey (best known for his mixes of 2 Bear’s – Bear Hug, Diplo & Sleazy Mcqueen), Verdo, Ruben & Ra. Here are their picks…

FIVE SONGS YOU MUST HEAR THIS WEEK #82: AJELLO

AJELLO FEAT. HARD TON–DREAM OF PARADISE (ANDY MEECHAM EXTENDED REMIX)

Nu acid house? Mr Emperor Machine did a great jam on the original, and turned the track into a warehouse dark acid trip.

CRIMEA X–YEV

Superb track, a fusion of styles in a single song, the energy of punk funk, the joy of disco, the darkness of the new wave synths and the cosmic flavour.

WANEXA–THE MAN FROM COLOURS (INSTRUMENTAL)

The most seminal italo disco track, thanks to Mr Farina and Mr Rago, a couple of genius!

KOMBI–PRZYTUL MNIE

Great piece of Disco! Romantic and melancholic journey. This song make you happy and unhappy at the same time.

SHRIECKBACK–NIGHTWORK

Big fan of Y records, and everything on it, from Pop Group, Pigbag, Maximum Joy, and of course Shrieckback. This track is a B side instrumental jam with drum machines, real percussions, distorted filtered vocals, and gorgeous effect. Ahead of their times
