Our friends at ASBO are celebrating their 8th birthday this Saturday (July 13th) at The Lock Tavern London – on the line up are In Flagranti (who have just released their new EP on Erol Alkan’s label Phantasy), Trevor Jackson, Riotous Rockers & Alvin C. Here’s some more info:
ASBO celebrates its 8th birthday with two special guests that are inspiration to the night. Trevor Jackson has always been someone we look out for, whether it be musically through his work as Playgroup and Underdog, or the seminal Output Recordings imprint and his highly respected mix albums or more recently, compilations. Also visually, through his iconoclastic design work and moving image. Everything has a mark of quality and individualism.
Much is the same for In Flagranti who have forged their own individual path through music and visualisation. Totally unique to them. Their next release the ‘Headrush EP’ is forthcoming on Erol Alkan`s Phantasy Sound label.
ASBO residents Riotous Rockers and Alvin C provide the aural glue to this Small Disco upstairs at a boozer in Camden. We have a special late license for this birthday event and it is still free to get in! So come and buy us a pint…or 8..x
We’ve asked them to pick some tracks for us. Check em all out below:
IN FLAGRANTI (SASA)
THE TREMELOAS-MY LITTLE LADY
This is the first pop song I can remember, my parents had it on a 7″. I remember hearing it come out of another house and thought…oh wow they like that song too… before that I thought my parents were the only ones who had this record.
When I was about 9 years old, my parents bought me my first cassette recorder/player with a bunch of cassettes with the latest in pop music. One of them was a compilation which included Kraftwerk’s Autobahn…I didn’t understand what was going on but I was fascinated with the outer worldly sounds…
DEEP PURPLE-SMOKE ON THE WATER
This was the first riff I learned on the guitar…
CARPENTERS-WE’VE ONLY JUST BEGUN
My teacher during high school would play carpenters in the arts class..we all hated it…but now I am in love with them.
JAMES BROWN-SEX MACHINE
But when i heard james brown for the first time, i though all the rest just sounded like fluff…
PRESENT ASBO 4
RED AXES-SILVER BED
A real video. Not just a pack shot of a sleeve. My new obsession. Red Axes.
DANIELE BALDELLI & DJ ROCCA – COMPLOTTO GEOMETRICO (ANDREW WEATHERALL REMIX)
Lord Sabre remixes my old pal Dj Rocca.
TODD TERJE-STRANDBAR (DISKO VERSION)
Our man and previous ASBO guest, Terje unleashes another beast.
YOUNG MARCO-EDIT SERVICE VOL.10
Beautiful. Balearic. Sunshine.
PAST ASBO 4
TOUCH SENSITIVE-BODY STOP
An ASBO anthem. Pretty much played every month since we first heard it.
MARCUS CABRAL & SHUX-LIFETIME GROOVE
Another anthem. Jacques Renault ‘On The Prowl’ imprint delivers a re-edit of New Edition!
VELVET SEASONS & THE HEART OF GOLD-CAMEL TOE CENTRAL
Relatively new i guess, 2012. This is Joel Martin (Quiet Village) & Gerry Rooney (Black Cock Records) project of the moment. Playing around with a Chill Rob G break. Hopefully future ASBO guests.
KID KREOLE & THE COCONUTS-ANNIE, I’M NOT YOUR DADDY
I usually play an re-edit of this, but the video to the original is so dope, it needs to be seen.

RIOTOUS ROCKERS (BOGGY)
PAST ASBO 4
PINEAPPLES-COME ON CLOSER (ORIGINAL RECORDS VERSION)
ASBO Classic italo, played this so many times, never tire of it. If you play the dub you’re not the dj I thought you were
PREFAB SPROUT-WHEN LOVE BREAKS DOWN
One of Peter (Riotous Rockers)’s most memorable last track of the night tunes. Pop perfection.
FRONT PAGE FEAT. SHARON REDD-LOVE INSURANCE
One of our favourite disco records of all time I hold this with the same fondness as Kiss me again Dinosaur or Three Degrees – The Runner
JIMMY NAIL-CROCODILE SHOES
This only ever got played at ASBO once! Around 2005 we invited a dj duo from the Newcastle area to be our guests for the month. Unfortunately their car broke down and it ended up a 8 hour journey for them to receive the princely fee of £50. To make matters worse I had the bright idea to introduce the guests with ‘Geordie Hero’ Jimmy Nail’s ode to his crocodile shoes just before they came on. Unsurprisingly they failed to see the funny side.
PRESENT ASBO 5
TOM TRAGO-TWO TOGETHER
Perfect ASBO party Anthem from Tom Trago.
Even in Jimmy Edgar’s more techy tracks the funk runs through every note, here’s a prime example.
INTERSTELLAR FUNK-HOUSE TRAIN
Along with the Tom Trago above this is new on the always great Rush Hour label. Absolute banger.
Lone has got sound of the summer locked down here.
CAJMERE & RUSSOUL-WATERFALL
Cajmere provides a totally infectious groove for this great vocal track.
