Part Sixty-Three. Digitalism is a German electro duo, founded in 2004 in Hamburg, consisting of Jens “Jence” Moelle and İsmail “Isi” Tüfekçi. Jens likens Digitalism’s songs to simple chapters in a complex novel about social interaction and attraction, with distorted baselines and thumping rhythms comprising the punctuation.
Digitalism’s debut album, Idealism, was released 9 May 2007 as Digitalism on Toshiba EMI Records in Japan, on May 21, 2007 on Kitsuné Music in France and on Astralwerks in North America. The album includes re-edits of the previously released singles “Jupiter Room”, “Zdarlight” as well as their “Digitalism in Cairo” original re-edit of a track by the Cure which actually doesn’t feature a sample from the track. In June 2011, Digitalism released the second studio album ‘I love You Dude’ on Cooperative Music. The ablum includes the previously released singles “Blitz” and Stratophere”, the hit-single “2 Hearts” and a cooperation with Julian Casablancas. All over the sound on the second album has become more openminded. Digitalism’s sound is crossing the limits between Electro, Rock and Indie.
Digitalism remixed tracks for Tom Vek, The Futureheads, Daft Punk, Tiga, Klaxons, White Stripes, Monk, Depeche Mode, Cut Copy and many others. Their tracks and remixes are played by DJs such as Erol Alkan, Soulwax, Boys Noize, and Justice, among others. Now they are back with a mix for !K7′s legendary DJ-Kicks series, which you can pre-order here
Out internationally 25/06/2012 & US 10/07/2012.
FIVE TRACKS YOU MUST HEAR THIS WEEK #63: DIGITALISM
OPPENHEIMER ANALYSIS-THE DEVILS DANCERS
Not so much people know about this band they are from 1982 still one of our favorites
METRO AREA-WE ALSO NOT
The first time we got in touch with them was 2002. It’s one of Isi’s favorite bands. Everything they put out on Environ was something classic yet different, like DFA back then…They released this one on Tigersuhsi, our friend Joakim’s label that puts out everything but mainstream stuff, it’s a real gold mine.
GUI BORATTO-NO TURNING BACK
We just discovered this a few days ago and totally reminds us of all the summer house tunes that we used to drop at outdoor parties. Perfect for this season.
DJ DUKE-WELCOME TO THE FACTORY
This was a real club hit from about 1994? It was the time when we got into Dance and especially House music while still going to school. There was this radio show on a local station that played all the big tunes every Friday. We taped everything.
LAST NINJA 2 ON C64 OST, LEVEL 1: CENTRAL PARK
This must have been one of the best game soundtracks in 8 bit ever. You should check out the other levels, too – It’s pretty full on! Straight from the 80s.
