surely this needs resurrecting?

i'd still love to see Martin O'Neill get pulled apart by a pack of wild dogs

good game today, was disappointed to be on the recieving end of it, but to say that Martin Atkinson refereed the game well is the most ridiculous, unbelievable thing ive ever heard, i'm sure the vast majority of people who saw the game will agree with that.

Referee was mad. Great game for the neutral, thought Everton deserved a lot more than they got though, just one of those days.

Incredible game.

Brilliant game for the neutral. My mate stopped watching at about 80 minutes. Sucks to be him.

Great win for the Villians. What a team. Fair enough, Everton were on top a bit more than us but they were playing at home and so they should of been. They still didnt create a clear cut chance for themselves all game though. Everton played well but hadly showed signs that they have anywhere near as much class as Villa. Villa didnt play that well but they got stuck in in the defence and our class shined through with 3 incredible finish's. Ashley Young shoudl be a squad regular for England. He is incredible. He had the second hbighest assists in the premiership last season and will be up there again. How the likes of Stuart Downing are higher in the pecking order is beyond belief!

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - KIRBY - 2008-12-08 17:31:05

The words 'Villa' and 'class' should never be uttered in the same breath. Villa are the ultimate hustle and bustle team. Absolute daylight robbery, Everton dominated from start to finish. I actually wanted Everton to win becauce I quite fancy getting Barry on a pretty much free signing if Villa finish outside the top four this season.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - Jamie_ - 2008-12-08 17:31:58

Downing has a left foot, and thus doesn't cut inside at every opportunity. He's also better than everyone gives him credit for.

That said, I do think Young should be given chance to start for England, and there's no doubt in my mind that he will get this chance should he continue to play the way he has.

I'm afraid I completely disagree with you. Here is why:

Right, no clear cut chances? Well we hardly created alot, but that is unfair, Cahill should have buried one in the first half and in the second we hit the bar and Yobo should have headed in from a corner.

Getting stuck in and unfairly using your strength and height advantages are two different things. We come to expect bias towards the top teams, that is inevitable, but in tight games like yesterday it really is not fair, It was also bad to see Fellaini again being penalised for things Sir fucking Garreth of Barry got away with consistently all game

Also, credit to Ashley Young, they were good finishes. Yet, what did he actually do? Capitalised on defensive errors and lapses in concentration. We kept Villa in check all game and they came across, to me anyway, as a very one-dimensional team.

I'm just angry really, to have such elation and ectasy one minute, and to have it taken away the next...

such is the life of an evertonian.

i'm really shocked that not more has been made of the awful refereeing? match of the day 2 actually praised him for it, leaving me bewildered beyond belief. I dont want to seem like the usual whining 'blame it on the ref.' type as Everton really were architects of their own demise, but he was like a 12th man for them yesterday.

i dont think the squad we have is capable of winning anything nor do they have anything like the belief to, every opportunity they get to gain the advantage over their opponents such as going 6th and what not, they throw away, look at Wigan the other week, what a f**king joke!

like it says in the paper today, Villa will be splashing the cash in january and any team aspiring to be best of the rest hasn't got a hope. Ashley Young took his goals well but he's a right little c**t, so i'd prefer him to get a human firing range call up above an england one.

Nah ladd, I genuinely believe Everton are currently in transition. With a couple of signings in the key areas we could be challenging for top 4 within 2 years.

the board have got you brainwashed then my man ;)
challenging the top 4 above tottenham/city/portsmouth?
the table is nothing like an accurate representation the way it is at the minute.
who'd want to come to us when we can't afford them nor their wages and take 1 step forward, 2 steps back? hull look a better bet! haha.

Arthur Boruc is a twat, i hope he has a horrible christmas.

Celtic are the first team to come to easter road and make sol bamba look even remotely like a professional footballer. Comfortable win for us in the end, mon the cabbage.

I have still only seen Everton win once this season.

This year is turning out to be one of the more interesting seasons, my money is on Chelsea to nick it at the very end (the title that is).

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - KIRBY - 2008-12-14 13:01:04

It's not the disappointment, it's the hope I can't cope with, and Benitez is driving me to despair. He is the reason why we're competiting after the mid-table squad we had 4 years ago, and at the same time he's the reason we'll never win it. If we do win it, it'll be because of our individuals, and not because of the management. Bringing El Zhar, a couple of million Leto-esque figure, on ahead of Babel and Keane (who had his best game for the club yet in midweek) is beyond bizzare, and only Benitez would bring on Lucas to tighten the midfield up with 5 minutes left at 2-2.

We're going to be dependant upon Torres scoring 20 home goals again in the second half of the season, because Benitez's stubborn mentality isn't going to change. 3rd it is.

haha i know mate, its my 3rd year of having a season ticket in the gladwys street and this season has been the first where i almost begrudge going to the game and wish it was away instead, a bizarre trait they have this season. Actually looked half decent yesterday though, i'd play cahill up there over anichebe anyway, much more hunger and desire for the team.

hardly surprising, not exactly a pedigree manager and Sparky is always going to be a hard act to follow! he should probably have stuck to the lower leagues, but he didnt set them alight either!

He saved Maccelsfield from relegation who were 10 points adrift from safety when he took over in his first season as a manager and then he won the league and that crappy Johnstone's Paint Trophy with MK Dons in his second season so he's done ok so far in the lower leagues!

He was doing pretty well at MK Dons wasn't he? Think it's pretty arrogant of Blackburn to expect someone from the lower leagues to acclamitize so quickly to the premiership, but I guess they need to ensure survival and it was poor judgement in hiring him originally.

can't believe that muppet Souness is favourite for the job. his man-management skills are as useful as wet gunpowder.

Think you may be a bit confused here...

Sounness is a poor manager, there's no doubt about that. His greatest claim to fame will be his 9 in a row squad, built and passed on to Watty to finish it off.

Think Blackburn could be in trouble, everyone will see the Sunderland post as a lot more exciting, more money, better stadium, better current squad.
