Too right.

Glad it's happened to Chelsea and not Spur's, was he not a Technical Director at Spur's?

Mikel/Oslo case and now this, Man Utd are getting done aswell for bumping off a French Club. Seen it on Sky Sport's this morning.

Your a Spurs fan aren't you? Good choice :)

This is only because those countries are shite. We still have a right back who can get destroyed by Kazakhstan's left winger and Emile Heskey.

Anyway, does anyone actually like the England team anymore?

And Johnny 'mad dog' Heitinga has got to be better than Tony ' Vladimir Putin' Hibbert at any rate.

Jamie_ Wrote:Hmm, if Kaladze wasn't actually comically bad on a regular basis I'd say there's something a bit dodgy about an AC Milan defender scoring two own goals in a crucial game against Italy.

Also, it's only just entered my conciousness why Johnny Heitinga's signing for Everton is absolutely brilliant. Has anyone ever seen him play? He's a massive nutter. I predict he'll give away at least 5 penalties by the end of the season.

Also, France will probably need a qualifier to get to S'Africa, Portugal will struggle to qualify (despite 'fast tracking' Liedson into the Portuguese squad) and Argentina are looking very shaky.
I thought it was a typo when i checked the scores via WAP on saturday, crazy!!

I don't think i have actually heard of someone scoring 2 own goals.

What I'm saying is, it doesn't matter how bad our right back is, as long as the other teams are worse. Spain are the best team in the world right now and their right back is being kept out of his club team by our right back.

Since when did Johnson play for Real Madrid?

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - Fookes - 2009-09-07 13:59:43

Oops. Error. But still, you know what I mean, Johnson was bought as an upgrade for Arbeloa.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - Jamie_ - 2009-09-07 14:07:27

Sort of. It was a massive rip off, and I think Arbeloa did very well for Liverpool.

It's only because Sergio Ramos is injured/suspended that Arbeloa is playing.

Johnson is very good going forward, but he can't defend for shit. Walcott won't be tracking back when he plays, neither does Lennon/Beckham etc. The only one who maybe would is James Milner and he'll not be picked to start anytime soon.

Anyway, I actually trust Capello to sort it out, and Johnson will probably alternate with Wes Brown depending on opposition.

Also, what you should actually be worried about is whether our right back is as good as the other teams left winger.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - Fookes - 2009-09-07 16:19:08

Yeah I agree with you in many ways, I just think that a lot of people artificially build up foreign players too much, especially when they don't see them that often. My original point was actually agreeing with you in pointing out how many of the big footballing countries are playing terribly.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - housecat87 - 2009-09-07 17:00:11

in fairness most of the big teams tend to come good during the tournament. i havnt seen much of italy of late, but argentina and france just ned a change of manager. domenech seems to be loosing the dressing room and maradonas team selections have been baffling. considering the players available for both these teams its ridiculous how bad they have been playing.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - Jamie_ - 2009-09-07 17:39:36

I don't understand how Domenech is still French manager. He's laughably inept.
Italy hadn't scored for something like 350 minutes before Kaladze put two, or one and a half, past his own keeper.

Fookes, I do agree with you there in a way. Although it does work both ways. Torres is now thought to be better than David Villa because we see Torres every week, even though David Villa's scoring and assist stats are absolutely unbelievable for club and country, and we don't rate Diego Forlan because he was quite poor at United but is now probably one of the best strikers in the world.

This is not me over rating players from foreign leagues by the way.

But, back to the important question - does anyone actually like England? I mean, yeah, I'll support them in the World Cup, but do you actually like them? I find myself disliking all of the players and the way they play. Rooney didn't dive, but he did appeal for the penalty, which was cheating. John Terry, Mr Loyalty. Ashley Cole.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - KIRBY - 2009-09-07 22:56:03

Johnson is absolute class, and has been for over a year. hasn't put a foot wrong for us defensively, either. Most creative genuine wide player in the league; wasn't a rip off in the slightest.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - KIRBY - 2009-09-07 22:57:28

Johnson or Zhirkov. hmmmm.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - Fookes - 2009-09-07 23:13:03

Although I read this earlier which I thought was funny

Quote:A (TRANSFER DEADLINE) DAY IN THE LIFE OF ROBERT DAVID KEANE (AGED 29)

12pm: Get up and eat hearty Irish breakfast. It's going to be another long transfer deadline day chez Keane. I've been a massive fan of transfer deadline day all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

12.45pm: Mmm, that was tasty. I've been a massive fan of rashers, eggs, sausages, baked beans, black pudding, soda bread and black tea all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

1.30pm: Knock on lid of sunbed and ask Claudine where designer washbag is. She says she'll pack it for me when she's finished topping up her tan. She's been a massive fan of UV rays, going back to when she was a kid growing up in Dublin.

1.35pm: Check tabloid websites to see which teams I'm being linked with. Ooh! Sunderland and the Queen's Celtic. I haven't played for either before, but like Wolves, Coventry, Inter, Dirty Leeds, Spurs and Liverpool, I've been a massive fan of both clubs all my life, going back to when I was kid growing up in Dublin.

1.50pm: Print off template of stock unveiling speech that's served me so well down the years: "It's absolutely fantastic, a real dream come true for me. I've been a [insert team name in here] fan all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin, and I always had a [insert team name in here] shirt on my back. So, to be here now as a [insert team name in here] player is incredible and I couldn't be happier ..."

2pm: Mr 10% hasn't called, so knock on lid of sunbed to ask Claudine what I should do next. She says to check to see if there's any reporters from Sky Sports News standing shivering outside the house. I've been a massive fan of Sky Sports News all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

2.05pm: Dash to window and look, but can't see any reporters from Sky Sports News.

4pm: Remember to open curtains and see inquisitive face of shivering, microphone-wielding eejit in Sky Sports puffa jacket staring back at me. I've been a massive fan of Andy Burton all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

4.30pm: Get call from Mr 10% - the Queen's Celtic have come in for me!!! That's great news. I've been a massive fan of the Queen's Celtic all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

4.35pm: Get on AA route-finder. 401.4 miles!?!?!? I can't get there by the deadline at 5pm.

5.40pm: Ring Mr 10% to explain predicament. Apparently the transfer window in Scotland doesn't close until midnight, so I've time to get a flight. A flight? I've been a massive fan of flying all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

5.45pm: Knock on lid of sunbed and tell Claudine we're moving to Glasgow.

5.50pm: Orange arm emerges from sunbed holding Armani washbag containing cheese sandwiches and a Lucozade bottle full of cold tea. I've been a massive fan of packed lunch all my life going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin.

5.55pm: Leave house, step over frozen corpse of microphone-wielding man in Sky Sports puffa jacket. Drive to airport, get on plane.

9pm: Appear before press at Queen's Celtic Park wearing green and white hoops, the colours of Queen's Celtic who I've been a massive fan of all my life, going back to when I was a kid growing up in Dublin. "It's absolutely unbelievable. I always wanted to play for the [Queen's] Celtic and it works out well for both parties."

9.05pm: Check fixture list. Next up it's Kilmarnock away. I've been a massive fan of Kilma … actually no, I've never heard of them.

I actually think the green and yellow campaign is a really good idea, it's really noticable at the games and a good way of showing support for the anti-Glazer campaign. But what made me chuckle was the amount of United fans I saw wearing these scarves in Manchester yesterday with bags full of merchandise from the club shop...

Is this about the Gerrard thing?
I think it's a little more than just because we hate Liverpool, most people just choose to believe the footage of Gerrard beating up a guy cause he wouldn't play his song, and don't really believe him to a particular service to humanity....'what's your favourite cheese, Steven?' 'Erm....melted cheese'.

Ahem.
Is to hope such a bad thing Santero! :( but I was happy with the game anyway
Indeed - its a shame Barca didn't score earlier, as that would have completely changed the complexion of the game. FAir play to Inter though, to do what they did while playing with only 10 men for so long is highly impressive.

you really really dont want gallas in your dressing room. remember he effectively lost us the title a few years ago. really hoping spurs sign him, the fallout will be hilarious.

good that you know your place signing our unwanted leftovers though.

he'll probably be broken half the year.
then again, he'll also probably score against us.

obnoxious personality, glad that he's gone.

Erol Alkan Official Football Thread - SomethingMoreGlorious - 2010-08-20 09:29:56

I work with a Spurs fan and he's lauding the Gallas signing as some kind of revenge for Sol.

I'm aware such moronic claims will be in the minority but how can anybody possibly think that? Some fans will grasp at anything.

Sol walked out on his boyhood club to join their arch rivals where he enjoyed the best years of his career and helped them win trophies and is now considered an Arsenal legend. Gallas is a free agent who was once great but definitely on the decline as a player who clearly wasn't valued too highly at Arsenal given the "low", one year contract he was offered.

I wouldn't be surprised if him signing for Spurs is nothing more than a spiteful act for what he perceives to be Arsenal doing him over. Either way, I look forward to the first newspaper article where he criticises half the team and moans that Ledley King starts ahead of him even though he doesn't train.
