I don't think Hyperdub have to do any promo for Burial anymore. I mean they only played it on the Hyperdub show on Rinse a month before it hit the shops. It's all they had to do really. I doubt they send out many Burial promos these days if any.

Irrespective of any nefarious scheme to get higher ratings, are you seriously suggesting that people who like this are only able to make a judgement on a a track when Pitchfork say its good?

I bought it because the tracks sounded great. I couldn't care less what articles, high rated reviews or pr there is for it.

Well, speaking from experience, articles and good reviews don't cost anything. PR does because PR companies tend not to work for free.
And, as I said, I bought and loved this EP without previously knowing anything about it: I don't read reviews, blogs or hype-mongering sites at all.
So, yes, I'm serious.

Things that make me wonder: the fact
that when someone random uploaded this EP on youtube
but with their own 'burial' sounding tracks, it got more views
than actual burial and people praised it mistakenly across the board.
Nothing against this btw, just a curiosity re: this sound.

There's always some sort of marketing scheme.
But something about this release and the reaction just seems off.
I really like Burial, there are a couple of his songs that I play really often and seem timeless. However this release doesn't seem to be in that category. I think if any other producer had released it, there would be absolutely no reaction. No one would call it exceptional or anything like that.

unfortunately, that's the way things work. most people are gonna be dead before they realize that, unless you understand that and develop a genuine taste, most of the stuff you listen to, you do so, because you're supposed to. because someone wants you to. that gets multiplied when the hype factor gets involved.
