this thread descended into madness since I last checked. I'm on both sides of this debate...

A) I really don't see the point of releasing a vinyl only record in this day and age, any genre. If i'm starting a label, sure, i'd love to release vinyls and CDs, but our first and most consistent medium is going to be digital mp3s,wavs, and flacs. It's not really about anything but accessibility, and I completely agree with Larvi's point about them including a voucher for high quality (non-watermarked) mp3s with a vinyl purchase, i'd do that for my label if I started one.

B) I also really like that he's releasing this vinyl only, it'll give me an excuse to buy a couple vinyl, cause I never just order one at a time, I always buy a couple, and I haven't bought any since, probably, mid-july?

C) It is really easy to rip vinyl, in many various qualities. My usb turntable is really mediocre at best, it was only $250 YEARS AGO, and it rips tracks into wavs which I can then convert to whatever i'd like, 320mp3, v0mp3, 192mp3, VBRmp3, flac, leave it as wav, whatever.

The twinkle in an eye about to be blackened.

Oct 17th vinyl only. Previews too.

I don't like Buurg that much, but Pur is cool.

The amount of people not understanding the gesture behind a hand-stamped / vinyl-only release is pretty high.

He's just giving "us" (as in fans of his music) a nice collectors item of raw / unedited creativity. Nobody owes you a digital release.

Same people complaining about Apple not releasing the iPhone5 instead of the 4S.

The whole thing is kind of pretentious IMO, seeing as he's in a scene which has nothing to do with vinyl, historically or culturally, or anything really. Electro-house came after the vinyl days, no electro-house heads DJ on or collect vinyl, and the music doesn't event suit the sound of vinyl.

Not for me.

I agree with you. Sure, he grew up with the sound of vinyl and listened to a lot of vinyl stuff but the whole vinyl thing was already 'dead' when he started DJ'ing and started the BNR label.

Nevertheless I'm still going to buy it, as a fan/collector.

I don't really like that tweet, it's an insult to me as a fan, even though it's "just" a tweet.

He's basically saying everyone who does not spin vinyl is not a dj. Which is funny when you think about the interview with Brodinski where he says he's never purchased a single vinyl record in his life.

how much of a pratt does he feel playing this out on cdjs during his sets?

can he just own up to making two subpar tracks and trying to make more dollar on them by making them 'exclusive' and 'special'?

Because he's surely breaking the bank with those vinyl sales of a track some people think is crap. Always a good business model to potentially alienate your hardcore fan base.

the idea is he only wants djs to play/have the tracks to give them some longevity. you'll hear them out, but you won't hear them on the bus.

kind of sucks, but it's an interesting idea. shame most people will never hear them out anyway, especially in places where there are not big clubs that play decent music and have djs who actually use vinyl.

$10 says that they'll be passed around in 320k mp3 within a week of release date, just like the night slugs white labels.
