apparently 1m people watched it last year. this year figures were down for the first show (it's done over two nights) but it still got 600,000. the thing is, the normal "talent" to demonstrate is either a sad poem or a diddly-aye song or a wee tune on a fiddle or something. it's one of those "cultural institutions" that most people think is outdated and cringeworthy but still happens every year.
if you've ever seen the lovely girls competition on father ted, well... this is the real thing. |
