Thoughts?

Wasn't sure on first listen, but it's got a really nice groove to it I think.

Overall I like it. Not really possible to judge such a short clip, be interested to hear where he sourced the vocal samples from. Look forward to hearing the whole EP.

Hearing this in its entirety, I think it's pretty special.

Almost reminds me of late-90s trance in a way. Which is not a bad thing.

i definitely get the trance vibes on this and loner. can't say i "get" the ep as a whole. maybe i need to give it more listens.

one thing he's doing that i don't like is building a track, killing it and building it up again. did it with the massive attack remixes too. though i do quite like the final "movement" in ashtray wasp, the piano bit.

Wasn't really rating this tune at first, but listening to the Kindred EP as a whole it makes a lot more sense. Love it.

I keep getting distracted by listening to Ashtray Wasp on repeat, picking out all the little sounds, and not listening to the whole EP.

Y'know what, I'm just gonna say this is (probably) the EP of the year and get it over and done with. Listened to it properly a few times over, too many good things to say about it.

not that i mean to harp on but jesus...

It's hard to talk about Kindred-- whether in the context of electronic dance music or just in the Burial discography itself-- without resorting to superlative terms, because it really is just that impressive. It's easy enough to take a talent such as Burial for granted, but Kindred is like a convenient slap in the face, a wake up call.

Only thing I don't like about this tune in particular are the little moments when the sound drops out. Hyperdub says they're intentional but they seem a bit unnatural to me.

Still don't get the hype behind Burial. He's definitely a talented artist doing interesting things, but I'm not seeing how people seem to get so emotional over his tunes

It's definitely "time and a place" music. Probably won't make much sense cruising around on a summer's day blasting his stuff, but if you're, say, walking round empty streets at night, it just sounds... right.

Sorry. That sounded a lot less faux-deep in my head.

I completely get the hype. I remember when I got the first Burial album, there was much less hype (but still a fair bit...) The moment I heard Distant Lights it completely resonated with me, it was amazing. His tunes always have that emotional impact with me since. The sense of anticipation I had for Untrue was ridiculous, it delivered in every way, and he has continued to do so with the EPs. The fact that he isn’t over prolific probably helps with hype levels as well.

Having spent my whole life living in the cold streets of London probably helps with my love of Burial.

Yeah, I got that email from Hyperdub too...
Not convinced it isn't just a mistake as, like you say, it doesn't sound right.

Sounds pretty special to me. That's an Elephant Stone sample at 4:30ish isn't it?

I don't get it, it just had a big promotional push so people jumped on.

Really? Cos I didn't know anything about it until I was browsing the Hyperdub site the day it was released. In fact, I've seen very little buzz about it at all, which is a shame.
