I have it on exceptionally good authority that at least two of the top 10s numbers are complete works of fiction.

Yeah? I'm ruling out Oakey then. I remember he was getting £500,000 a show like 10 - 15 years ago.

I feel extraordinarily confident in saying that Oaky was not getting half a million pounds per gig at any stage in his career. He may have done a party for the Sultan of Brunei or something, but £500,000 a show? No chance.

this is "net worth", not how much they get paid for shows. It'll include all income, EDM based or not, and future predicted cash flows.

so if you add Thomas & Guy together, Daft Punk will be second... this makes me warm & fuzzy inside :)

Its also total guesswork, from a notoriously unreliable website.

As I said, I know for a fact that 2 of the top 10's figures are total cobblers.

He's sold over 5 million records, so it's not that ridiculous.

Royalties from the Big Brother theme must have been huge as well for a few years!

You'd think he and A-Trak made more than Martin Solveig

Why is the net worth of The Chemical Brothers combined yet Daft Punks are listed as each.

Royalties from the Big Brother theme must have been huge as well for a few years!

Neither of those things are especially relevant to my point - I don't doubt that A.) he's shifted a ton of records or that B.) he made a solid wedge from the Big Brother theme before they bought him out on that.

Think about what is being suggested - that he was getting HALF A MILLION POUNDS per gig. Sorry, but no. Maybe that happened once or twice for some reason, DJing for an Arab prince or something bonkers like that, but as a standard DJ fee? Thats insane. You'd have to sell 50,000 tickets at a tenner each to make that back, but then of course you have the rest of the cost of putting such an event on, and you lose 20% from those ticket sales on VAT. Which is why I feel so confident in saying that there is no way on God's Green Earth that his standard DJ fee was ever £500k.

lol. I love how you've taken the position of "DJ financial expert".

I don't really care to tell you the truth. However, it's worth saying that Drake reportedly gets $500,000 just for wearing those Nike gloves on national television.

Superstar DJs probably gets paid a similar packet just for staying loyal to a particular brand of headphone or something.

I'm with Will here. The sums don't add up, simple.

I think the key word there was "reportedly". It's more than likely all hearsay and hype.

I don't find it so farfetch'd... I mean Tiesto shows here sell-out right away 20+ thousand people at 100$/each.... I mean that shit ads up FAST! Especially if Godvicii can sell out to a crowd of + 20k nothing is impossible.

Yeah, I have no idea how much he got paid per gig. It just still makes me laugh that he did the Big Brother theme tune, and that I bought it on vinyl.

Agree with Santero- a regular fee of 500k is just not realistic, especially 10-15 years ago. I remember when the label I was working for dealt with that Tiesto/ Busta rymes/ Diplo single. Tiesto put on 5 nights in Vegas, 1 night every month or something, and those shows were BIG. His 'wage' for this shows was nowhere near 500k each, I know that for a fact, and considering he's probably the highest paid DJ right now, I reckon those figures are a little off.

Either way, that's an insane amount of money to have, can you imagine being paid even 10% of that for a few hours 'work'? Crazy.

There is absolutely no way in hell Afrojack is worth 2 million
Also, is Darude still about? Haven't heard anything since the Fake Blood mix of Sandstorm.

lol.

I mean let's be honest that sort of money today would be crazy, but in the prosperous mid-to-late 90s it was not unthinkable.

I'm still having fun picturing the Sultan of Brunei having it large at some all-nighter with Oakey on the decks.
