Malouda did a great game too.
The red was really bad. Only one shoot in target and barca scores, amazing. Even if on this match Chelsea should be in the final, I still prefer barca - Manchester than Chelsea. Even if today they were way more entertaining than barca Don't get caught up in the machine, get caught up in your own imagination |

neutral also, gotta feel sorry for chelsea. they were the ebst side for over 180 mins but 30 seconds cost them. ah well. echo the sentiments of the rubbish ref but if barca play like they have for past 2 legs against man u they will get spanked no doubt about it

Unbelieveable scenes. The referee had an absolute shocker, got all the big decisions wrong. How can an referee who is given responsibility for such an important game be that bad?

its not only about posession though. the key thing is that untill 92nd miinute of 2nd leg barca did nothing with that 70% just kept blindly going through the middle and geting shut down. chelsea never looked in trouble untill the end and when they were attacking looked far more threateneing
i cant say it was excellent tactics from hiddink cos ultimately they lost BUT they did manage to stop barca from playing football properly, which is key. just shame they couldnt finish it properly or at least keep concentration for full game. maybe on other nights they'd have had those ref decisions that didnt go their way, but i dont think they were clear cut. where man u will overcome barca is that barca are v.v. succeptible at the back, and man u have got such a good defence that unlike chels they wont need to commit their entire midfield to defending either. so when they have players like ronaldo, park, nani, giggs, roon, evra who can break in a moment, barca will be in trouble if they commit players up front like they did tonight. altho all my predictions in this thread seem to end up wrong so what do i know! |

At the end of the day, the team that played football progressed. United aren't a great team. We've shown that, twice. They have a certain way of playing which allows them to pick up 29 wins out of 30 against teams outside the top five. Very much power and very little finesse. In the league this season, they've been second best to Liverpool, Arsenal, Villa and Tottenham and Chelsea for large periods. I think Barca are on the verge of being considered a great team. Chelsea are horrible to play against. They are a team of huge personalities, and, physically, are one of the most imposing teams I've ever seen. For me, that was the real test for Barca. In ten years time I feel you'll be looking back upon a team including Messi, Henry, Iniesta, Xavi, Abidal, Alves and Eto'o as one of the greatest that's ever played the game. All roads lead to Rome. Hahahahahaha, brilliant.
Oh and my comment about the final was intended to be construed as such. The final will be an attacking, free flowing match, this was a qualifier! I mean if the game happens to be played like this (which I'm 95% sure it won't) it would be, without doubt in my book, the most appealing looking match up of any two club teams in the world. The players in both sides are without doubt the best in the world to me, with the only notable exclusion in the sides being Fernando Torres (watch this space...) Feel sorry for Chelsea, but I'm sorry, the only penatly that was definite was Pique's handling of the ball. The other three were quite soft IMO. Also, Chelsea may well feel hard done by the ref but atleast they finished with 11 players. Barcelona had a player sent off, completely incorrectly. Thought it was a good game but the best team went through. Iniesta really is top top notch. Why are all the vocals pitched down so low? |

"The team that played football one"
Defending is as much a part of football as attacking. If everyone tried to attack Barca they would win every game 4, 5 or 6-0. Oh wait that IS what happens in La Liga, and it's the reaosn Barca are top. Just because Chelsea decided to not offer themselves for the slaughter doesn't mean they weren't playing football. |

People talk about the 'big four' monopolising English football but there's, what, 25 points between 2nd and 3rd there? And I just don't like Chelsea, so obviously that clouds my judgement, but Barca deserve to win the thing. They just do. Jamie_ Wrote:Do you not think they're a great team then? This season it's been small margins. Having a goal disallowed at home against Stoke, hitting the woodwork in the last moment in two games away. Concedeing two goals from free headers at corners. United are the ultimate flat-track bullies. They just power themselves past teams, not in a manner dissimilar to how Mourinho's Chelsea played. Obviously they're not as good, though. I think, watching that Barca team play, the way they keep and move the ball, they could become the first 'great' team since Zidane's Madrid. It's such a leap from being a title-winning team to becomming a 'great' team. And I actually thought all 3 penalties were stonewall, though the papers this morning seemed to think that only Pique's was nailed on. Then again, the same papers had Iniesta as Barca's best player with a 6 and Xavi with a 5, whilst Chelsea had 5 8s.
I never knew this until today, but Chelsea actually returned 1600 tickets for the Nou Camp leg. They couldn't so much as sell out their away support for a European Cup semi-final against Barcelona. They played pragmatic football and got a pragmatic result. United supporter, but man I feel bad for Chelsea. Robbed. Referee was a disgrace, as Mr Drogba so eloquently put it.
It's only noise to the untrained ear |
