I didnt like Nani running* over to the ref brandishing that gash trying to get jamie in more trouble. he's a tough player and its a tough game. its players like nani that take the fun/fight out of it with players not being able to put in a tackle for fear of a three match ban.

I must admit I did PMSL when Nani ran over to the ref pointed at his shin (5 mins later) saw abit of blood and fell to the floor in a fainting like manner, bursting out crying for 10 minutes!

LOL LOL and LOL, you are talking bollocks. When you are on adrenalin you don't feel the pain at first. But Nani's behaviour is not important, that was a horrible kick deserving a red card. And Carragher did it knowingly, he just wanted to rid Nani out of game. I hope someone broke his leg badly before his pathetic career ends, fuckin scum.

Didnt require a stretcher, nani. trying to get a player sent off is cheating.
the game was going at a nice pace and sending a vital defender off and giving him a 3 match ban with kelly and aurellio injured would be unjustified and poor refereeing.
its a shame united have to piss on the chips during a good game. they done the same at chealsea. lads got a good reality check this week. Man Who??

How exactly would it have been unjustified and poor refereeing? It was poor refereeing to not send him off. Shocking challenge. Knee high, over the ball, on his standing leg. A few inches lower and it could have been a snap.

I'm not a United or Nani fan by any stretch (I was cheering on Liverpool) but a shit challenge is a shit challenge. Nani's reaction did look a bit pathetic, but that doesn't excuse anything on Carragher's behalf.

i agree it was a bad tackle, and he should be more experienced than to do that. a straight red would be too much. he behaved himself after that. but he's that kind of player. speed ain't on his side so he uses what is, aggression.

i like to see a somewhat hard game of football. its a shame when someone gets injured but thats the game they play.

it was a definite red card as it was a wild challenge that could've done more damage than it did. the one after from rafael was dangerous too.

don't want it to overshadow the fact that were united were outplayed, and liverpool definitely deserved to win, but suggesting the tackle didn't merit a red card in the current game is just nonsense.

As much as nanis reaction was funny, Carragher and Maxis challenges were red cards IMO

The reaction wasn't funny, it's just what happens when you get injured like that. I once saw a guy break his ankle in a game of football, he then proceeded to get up and hobble a few yards before looking down confused at his ankle which was at a 90 degree angle and then faint from the pain - he later told me that he'd never felt such a high as when he saw what had happened (and says he never wants to feel it again). When you've injured yourself the adrenalin literally makes you completely unaware of what has happened.

So whilst Nani's first reaction being to go to the ref wasn't completely sportsmanlike, the whole collapsing afterwards thing would've been because the pain had just kicked in. Horrible tackle too imo, if I had my way i'd send footballers to prison for tackles like that... you'd go to prison if you did it in the street, so why should footballers be above it?

well in the street your not payed massive amounts of money to stop people from getting passed you, and vice versa.

whats the point.? I watched premier league years 98 tonight and it was a hard and good game of football. some of the challenges they were waved play on would warrant a ban. players break legs and ankles and go out of the game. new players come in and get a go. circle of life,

Nice to see some smart opinions here. The news are that the gash is really deep and he is out for 1 month atleast.

It's not funny for me but:

lol, yep that's bound to happen... a mere 9 points behind...

personally can't stand manure either, would rather wenger won it even though i'm an iron and can't stand gooners (even with the hilarious years of drought) - i'd like to think that decent football wins you titles.

also squeaky bum time for stoke, birmingham and blackburn - their brand of anti-football is getting found out imo and high time these rugby teams got relegated imo

With a game in hand and still to play Man Utd again, not unthinkable.

Does anyone know good websites to buy football shirts for a decent price? I seem to remember there was a good one posted on this forum a bit before the world cup.

christ, Tiga is such a fucking tit. support your team / celebrate, whatever, but there's no need to act like a J.C.L. 10 year old. I have some friends from Barcelona who are Barca fans, even they aren't pulling this shit (...yet?).

note how Erol reacted on twitter to Arsenal winning the 1st leg to the childish shit Tiga is posting.

Was a joke of a red card; but no more of a joke than a team not being able to string 4 passes together, get out of their own half more than 5 times, or even manage a shot...

I really like Wenger, and I really like what he is trying to do at Arsenal, but they were hopelessly outclassed tonight. The OG was a fluke.

Amazing to think that if Bendtner was a halfway decent player they could still have gone through though; Barca, for all their brilliance, need to be more ruthless in games like this.

If Danny Alves was more lethal in the final third barca could have scored shed loads. he showed lots of desire and great runs to get there but the end product never seemed to come off for him. I think Arsenal have paid the ultimate price for not topping a group they should have.

One thing that Arsenal fans slating the ref are wilfully ignoring is the penalty he didn't give for Diaby's blatant trip on Messi in the 1st half.

Yeah Alves is full of good intentions when it comes to attacking, but doesn't manage to score.

Villa is the same too, terrible game for him.
It just seems that Barca needs Messi too much, as soon as he (or sometimes Iniestia) touches the ball, everything goes faster, otherwise it's just people passing the ball without doing anything.

Arsenal was weak imo, and WTF Bendtner? It's the Champion's league, Barcelone offers you the opportunity to go in quarterfinals and you miss it? Come on!

Barcelone doesn't seem that strong imo, they missed a lot of shots (yeah Villa, I don't like you, you just score at the beginning of big events against low profile teams and everyone claims you're the best), and even at 11 vs 10 they could have lost if Bendtner (how is this guy still playing for Arsenal? Nobody wants to buy it or what?) hadn't missed it.

Anyway, it was just my two cents, I feel a big gutted because I like Arsenal, and they've been outplayed, not even one shot! I just feel even more gutted because Bendtner missed it (if he hadn't had this chance I would have felt more comfortable)

lol even Rosario Dawson was tweeting about that match. Nothing wrong with Tiga's reaction. I'm not really happy that he is a Barca fan though. :/

spot on... Arsenal disappointed me greatly today, the fact is Wenger will bitch and moan about teams setting up defensively against them but that's exactly what they did today (before the sending off). I like Arsenal's usual style but this was serious double standards

i tend to be a neutral when it comes to prem teams, apart from my genuine hatred for man utd, but i couldnt help support arsenal after that dismal decision. yes barca should have had a freekick at the edge of the box, perhaps even a pen but that sending off takes the piss. thats not to say that barca didnt deserve to go through, they were clearly the better side, but you have an underdog go to the nou camp and then get a farce of red card against them, completely ruined the contest. i hate to sound like fergie but these refs need to be held accountable. better yet bring in video replay, fuk the romantics, too much at stake to let these part time amateurs make these kinds of decisions. completey ruined the game.

you cant fault arsenal for defending the whole time either, its only logical to do so going into a game against by far the best side in the world with an advantage. thats the one side of their game they havnt been able to pull of yet, park the bus and kill a game off, and with refereeing like that its no wonder.
/drunoken rant

was rooting for arsenal tonight, but barcelona just make it look so effortless. finishing may not have been great, but they got through arsenal's defense so many times, it was laughable.
