The best Chuck Palahniuk for me is Invisible Monsters... it's amazing. Choke I was a little disappointed by.
And Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky is incredible |

JG Ballard has died.... A sad day. Prolific enough to warrant an adjective based on his name. Empire of the Sun and Crash FTW

His other one Venon God Little, won the booker prize a few years ago which is also excellent, brilliant black comedy and great story telling like.wasn't a big fan of ludmilla. that said, vernon god little was so unbelievably good that i don't think anything could have followed it up enough for me |

the little friend by donna tart's really good. also just finished reading Colson Whitehead's the illusionist, which is this noir exploration of elevator inspectors. really really good. muriel spark's the driver's seat is fantastic too. surprised no one's mentioned catcher in the rye yet. not a teenager any more, but still think it's so amazingly written.
also, recently read netherlands by joseph o'neill. really good. and if you want to read something so bleak it numbs you, then try the road by cormac mccarthy. pushes aristotle's ideas on catharsis to the absolute limit. i do english, and i get no time to read anything outside of what's on my course. it's a massive shame. |

The Contortionists Handbook - Craig Clevenger
Very good book! When Chuck Palahniuk is saying "I swear to God this is the best book I have read in easily five years. Easily. Maybe ten years." on the cover you're looking at a good thing! http://www.facebook.com/urchinsmusic http://www.soundcloud.com/urchins Twitter - @austenurchins // @willurchins http://www.palmsout.net - we are the UK peeeps : hit us up! |

Bump.
Anyone reading any good books at the moment? Few good suggestions in this ancient thread. I'm reading Harbour by John Ajvide Lindqvist, which I'm enjoying so much I'll finish it soon. So I need more good books. http://soundcloud.com/evangelink88 (2012-08-25 16:17:54)TempestDisco Wrote: BRWEEEEEEEEAGH BURR BURR BURR |

Currently reading East of Eden, only about 200 pages in but I'm loving it so far, getting a lot more into the characters than I did with Grapes of Wrath.

I'm half way through Statistics (Freedman/Pisani/Purves) and really enjoying it. Bit different to the other suggestions here, but I thoroughly recommend it if you have any interest in statistics/maths.
