love a bit of fleetwood mac, the rocky relationship between stevie nicks and lindsey buckingham makes many of their songs feel that much more genuine.

another depressing tune, dont know anything about it or the band, but been listening to this for a lil while now, think i found it on some blog somewhere

I'm moving from my winter black metal playlists to slightly less bleak stuff, and was recommended The Trials of Van Occupanther by one of my mates, and it's an ace album. Not sure what I like about this song so much,..

Got such a groove to it, the chorus gets me bobbin' every time. Can't help but listen with a smile on my face.

One of the darkest songs ever recorded? Probably.

Checked out the album and had it on repeat all summer. Hailing from Detoit, he flopped in the US and only really made an impact in South Africa and Australia according to wikipedia, so not sure how many of you might know him. I picked this tune because to me it captures what in my imagination the hangover of the 1960s must have felt like in the US (a decade that I idolized as a teenager), the end of the hippy dream, with lines like

'You wanna hear she loves you, but the words dont fit the mouth,
Your a loser a rebel, a cause without'

'You gave in, you gave out, outlived your dream of youth'

'I saw my reflection in my father's final tears
The wind was slowly melting, San Francisco disappears
Acid heads, unmade beds, and you Woodward world queers'

Also im a very nostalgic person, so more generally it speaks to my own nostalgia towards youth, and the uncertainty that comes with growing out of it. So yeah, thats my interpretation of the tune, I highly recommend the album, Cold Fact from 1970.

just a heads up, theres a documentary out about this dude sixto rodriguez now in the cinemas, or rather about his cult status in south africa, called 'searching for sugarman'. havnt seen it yet myself, but it has been getting rave reviews all over the shop.

back on topic, finally got round to watching eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, stunning movie backed by a stunning soundtrack. shame all the original pieces by jon brion are so short. also check out jay electronica - the pledge, which uses a medley of the jon brion songs from the soundtrack as a backing to his rap.

Saw the Invisible live once and didn't think they were that good. Last time was the first time I've heard them since when I happened to turn on to radio one and they were playing this which totally changed my opinion of them, literally overnight.

^ Sterling find, Housecat! Not heard that before, and a few months ago i listened to about 2 hours of Nina a day for a fortnight. To be fair, about an hour and a half was probably Sinnerman, Mood Indigo and I Put A Spell On You on heavy repeat.

Anyhows,

Profusely catchy bass.

Next time you're due for the dentist's, i implore you to begin air bassing and punk chanting.
