Are they known to work? I doubt a lot of customers are paying twice as much the price of a release -and in a store that is possible not their favorite- instead waiting a couple weeks.
So frustrating. |

they've worked on me a few times. but generally i just make a note next to the track on my 'music that i want' list saying when it's released on other platforms. it annoys me though :)

I was chatting with a label boss the other day - 83% of his online sales were through Beatport, and I don't think that sort of ratio is unusual either.

If a gig is coming up (say this saturday) and you really really want this one track but you can only obtain it at beatport exclusively, what are you gonna do? I for one swallow the bitter pill.

perhaps exclusives are actually a success strategy. that doesn't change some of my thoughts though!

This is the thing in my opinion: Presumably BP gives the labels a higher share in exchange for the exclusive, this is - it costs them money. This investment obviously pays off: they get the absolute monopoly of a product (a rather inusual thing in other industries), and people get to check out the website - even if they don't intend to actually purchase the release. A reasonable deal so far, given that Beatport's prices and service are excellent. But then why double the price? It's like you had to pay for watching ads. They seem to do it just because they can and it works. Reminds me of Apple. I agree and there's not much one can do to fight it. the whole thing's actually not that much of a big deal, but I just feel as if they were laughing at our face... |

Everything that is 'exclusive' in life costs more money than the standard thing. It's pure marketing.
I don't really get it why it reminds you of Apple, though. |

What the label gets for agreeing to an exclusive is a vastly increased chance of the track being featured on the front page, or the genre front page. The percentages remain the same. |

'beaport's prices and service are excellent'
wat? Not been on Beatport in months, go on to check out the new Midland EP on AUS Music. £12.56 it tried charging me for 4 WAVS (BP exclusives). Now nearly £13 quid for 4 digital files is straight up disgusting. Nothing else to say. Daylight robbery. |

since we're on BP, does anyone have the app? I used to, deleted it, and now I can't find it on the app store. not here in the states at least.

I find it quite disgusting when an EP on Beatport costs more than on vinyl.
