I've heard whisperings of some pretty high profile (and very credible) acts using this method to get to the top of the tree, although as they are basically unfounded rumours I'm not putting anything on a public forum!

Bloody depressing though, although its a practice that has gone on for years, stories of people going into woolworths with a few hundred quid and clearing shelves of a particular 7" back in the day are legion.

Never understood those sites. I've never listened to a tune and thought "this would sound a lot better if it had 20000 plays".

I can relate to this. In addition, a SC page with a shit-ton of comments will actually dissuade me from checking out one more than one or two tracks.

i remember there were rumours of posh spice getting her goons to do this for that banger she did with with dane bowers, totally unnecessary... "ice cream, you're out of your mind" CHOOON!
