I've decided to buy a pair of quality headphones for DJing and, after a fair amount of research, have decided on either the Sennheiser HD25s or the cheaper SP version. Money is definitely important as I don't have an awful lot of that at the moment but I'm willing to spend the extra on the HD25s if necessary - just wanted to get an idea of whether you guys think they're well worth the extra money or if you'd ever consider getting the cheaper SPs.

Obviously I'll try them both out before buying but there's certain things that I might not be able to take into account on the spot such as durability, long term comfort, and even sound quality.

I guess there's a few people here who have had much experience of both? Basically, do you think the difference in quality justifies the difference in price?

Thank you!

Got my HD25's round a year ago. They are very comfy BUT will start to hurt after a while if you are static. (2-3 hours with em on). THe foam pads are much more comfortable but the soundproofing isn't as strong as with the leather pads.

As for durability they are solid! I bought them on ebay for like 160$ so it wasn't that bad! The sound is top shelf and I have not had any complaints with them so far. (If they are good nuff for Zombie Nation than they are good nuff for me)

I know TMA's are often suggested but nearly everyone who has owned them said those are a bit looser fitting. SO if you have a bigger head you may wanna look into those.

These were really my first pair of $$$ headphones and honestly for the price and for how much I use them, I don't think I'd ever look back and regret this purchase.

Honestly I'd save some cash and get the HD's. Headphones are a big purchase for us music fags... All we do is listen, play or make music so investing some more $$ in something so important to our life is never a bad thing.

Awesome, thanks! I'd really like to buy them online too but I definitely need them today unfortunately. Yeah, looked at those TMAs but my head is on the smaller side anyway. That last paragraph sums it up I think. I'm worried if I do go for the cheaper ones that I'll end up wanting to upgrade soon anyway...

I'm on the same boat. They actually were an impulse purchase me, I just got my paycheck, saw them in the store, and decided to get them since I wanted a good pair of cans for a while.

That said, it's one of the best purchases I've ever done. Seemed like a lot of money at the time, but have them for nearly two years now and don't regret it at all. Still in perfect shape too.

The SP version is no good for djing because the cable is attached on both sides; you will probably strangulate yourself if you dj with them.

I went for the straight HD25s - no strangulation for me :)

Thanks everyone

This thread has made me realised I've had my HD25s for 7 years
Got to give credit to their durability

Bought a pair of Pioneer 2000s last year but flip between the pairs pretty evenly depending on venue/quality of monitors. Would still say the 25s are my favourites
