The correct term for this genre is "Post Trap", as the whole style is heavily influenced by Dirty South Music from "The Trap" or "the hood". I really wish I could have posted this on the first page of the thread, but here it is: A 2 hour Post-Trap mix by Flosstradamus for BBC Radio 1! |

Trap Music was the term coined by rappers from the Southern US. The "Trap" they are referring to is the drug culture in ghettos across the South. When someone got deeper into selling drugs, they would be "caught up in the trap". It was really big in the US, Think rappers like T.I. Slim Thug and whatnot.
"Post-Trap" is a genre of music that has been inspired by the producers who made instrumentals for Dirty South rappers. Theres also a lot of inspiration from electro, house, and dubstep, and moombahton, another difference from Trap music. Diplo was the first person I heard refer to it as "Post Trap" and his record label has been releasing a ton of this style music lately. Check out Munchi on Mad Decent Records. |

Came in this thread as I thought some light might be shed on what the hell 'trap' is but I've completely given up on genres now. I have absolutely no idea what half the music I listen to is classified as and how you figure out what kind of music a particular genre is.
What the hell does 'trap' mean and where did it come from?! |

Once you start making money from selling drugs you usually don't wanna stop, especially if its your only way off of the streets. Even though the drugs will affect you or those around you negatively, you won't quit because the money you are making. The drug game will either become your life or get you killed. The point is, once you get into the drug game, you can't get out. You are trapped! Trap music is hip hop that came from the drug culture of the Southern US. This is real trap Im pretty sure this thread is about the genre that Diplo dubbed "Post Trap". Just one of many genres Diplo has created out of thin air.... |

I don't know about all of this 'Post-Trap', but here in 'Merica i've heard the non-shitty stuff (RL Grime, Baauer) called 'Future Trap' or 'Trap House'
as in...

I saw 12th Planet live a couple weeks ago and he was dropping so many dope Trap style songs. He said in an interview that its all he's been listening to lately.
Also... a Trap release on Maustrap Records? Times certainly are changing (2012-08-08 01:30:24)kneel diamond Wrote: Post Trap, Future Trap.... same difference. Just don't let that picture confuse you. When Gucci says Trap House, he is referring to a House where drugs are cooked, not some new genre involving Gucci Mane talking over House Music (I WISH!!!) |
