Jules et Jim (Truffaut) Rififi - (Dassin) Honestly didn't really care much for 'The 400 Blows' But just leading this on - if you want to see a homage to 60's new wave, and a pretty fine film in it's own right - Bertolucci's 'The Dreamers' .... And while we're on Bertolucci - A Last Tango In Paris is always worth a watch, now pass me the butter. And just leading this on some more with some contemporary french cinema - A Fille Sur Du Pont is a very fine little love story. Blondie..... |

However on the Criterion release, Jules Dassin himself (along with the Production Notes) not only refer to it as 'New Wave' but the first/earliest breakout 'New Wave' hit. The same shooting techniques (on location etc.) that Godard, Truffaut employed - are all there. Whether you see it as New Wave, predating New Wave or Film Noir - either way it's a great movie, and the print on the Criterion release is pretty lush. Blondie..... |

jonny-d Wrote:I stand corrected - 1955.I'd see it as a film noir but you can't really argue with the director. Would definately see it as a precursor to the New Wave though. Are the Dassin comments from special features? Might have to pick up the DVD. |

The Last Boy Scout with Bruce Willis and Damon Waynes
Found it the other day at a market along with Speed, expect some classic one liners such as "Touch me again ill kill you" or "Oh it was an accident, you fell over and your dick fell in my wife". Another golden 90's action flick. A good drinking game would be to skull each time Bruce Willies gets punched in the face |

Caught The Constant Gardener and In Search Of A Midnight Kiss at the weekend....
TCG was excellent, really recommended. ISOAMK came off like a poor man's Before Sunset. Thought it was pretty weak considering the rave reviews it received. Disappointing. Blondie..... |

A few gory moments that I wasn't expecting to see towards the end which made me wince a bit. A couple of brilliant performances from the lead roles. Overall, well worth a watch |
