After reading all the posts on the 'Blade Runner' thread I found a few great films I've never seen before. So, to continue that, anyone with any film recommedations, please whack them on here for everybody.

So feel free to start it off with a couple of small, but perfectly formed examples of films we may have passed by,,,,

Nice one MCP. Not what I was thinking, but hey, why not?

Although these day's 'Tron' is better known for being the end part of crap DJ's names.

...except 'Ladytron' they're pretty cool... but they're not DJs.

As for a movie, I'm gonna say 'Dazed & Confused'

Dogtown and Z-Boys is a good doc as well. I'm going to recommend Hana-bi a Japanese existential cop film and Come And See a Belorussian WW2 film, the director used live ammunition when filming. And as someone mentioned Oldboy, either Ichi the Killer or Lady Vengeance for your shock cinema

Hana-Bi is class.

Check out 'Audition' for shock fans. It's WELL disturbing.

It just comes across to me that Tarantino tried to be clever and make an ironic cheap trashy film and ended up just making a cheap trashy film. Car Chase is excellent though.

tbh i don't agree.. i think he tries too hard for the first half an hour but after that the film is just brilliant.

it just flows so much better in the second half. the last 20 mins are so goddamn good, i keep watching it over and over

im not an expert on grindhouse/exploitation cinema but i really think this film feels like one. or after first half an hour anyway.

but i certainly wouldn't say he was trying to be ironic.. more doing what he usually does, homaging a certain genre/style of film.

you seen planet terror?

Yeah. Planet Terror is far better. Thats just balls out fun. Death Proof just seems like an injoke that I certainly didn't get. It's over indulgent, with the whole grainy film stock and black and white bits. I wish he'd just make a normal film. Then again I'm not a massive Tarantino fan as he's massivly overated. What you said about it being a 'homage' is probably true, but surely it's about time he made his own film. 17 years since Reservoir Dog's and he's STILL not made an original film of his own. In fact, I FUCKING HATE HIM.

Liked 'Pulp Fiction' though. ;)

how can you hate Tarantino, never done a bad film and made some excellent ones. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are still his best like. He does self consciously reference alot of films but well at least he does it in a way that doesnt totally rip off other films like alot of films do these days
